Lynn Johnson (Conrad)

Lynn Johnson Conrad

66, of Pasadena, died at home on August 29th, 2015 from cancer.
Born March 1st, 1949 in Wichita, Kansas to Rita (Sullivan) and Eldon Johnson, Lynn was raised in Seattle, Washington. She attended Holy Names Academy and earned her BS-RN from Seattle University. Following graduation she served in the U.S. Army as a 22 year old First Lieutenant, assigned to Fort Monmouth, New Jersey. She quickly became Operating Room Head Nurse and cared for Vietnam casualties. After her military service, she completed two years of training at The Johns Hopkins Hospital to become a Nurse Anesthetist. There, one night in the ICU, she met medical intern Gary and they were married a year later, May 17, 1975. Lynn practiced anesthesia at UCLA and later The City of Hope until deciding to stay home to raise their three teenagers.

As an early adopter of technology, beginning with the Apple 2E, she combined her love of creative arts with a perfectionist approach to graphic arts using many different computer programs. Lynn became known for her beautiful, often unique wedding invitations, brochures and programs. She studied photography and won awards for her photos and her flower arrangements at The Pasadena Garden Club competitions. She completed photos for the Smithsonian Archives of American Gardens.
Lynn served as the treasurer for The Christ Child Society, The Junior League, The Garden Club and her investment group, spending hours modernizing their accounting to computer. While her dedication to the quality of the records and mailings of these organizations was boundless, it was the lifelong friendships that she cultivated within them that were her true joy. More recently she enjoyed traveling, particularly researching the international trips. She looked forward to visiting her four grandchildren and teaching them art, cooking chocolate pudding and playing poker.
Lynn is preceded in death by her daughter Molly Ann. She is survived by husband Dr. Gary Conrad and three children, Andrew (Kimberly) Conrad of Berwyn, PA, Katie Conrad of Pasadena, CA and Thomas Conrad of Brooklyn, NY and four grandchildren, Owen, Sabrina, Patrick and Carter. She is also survived by her five siblings, Eldon Johnson, Ann (Steven) Depner, James Johnson, Joan (David) Russell and Thomas (Angela) Johnson.
